Welcome to the Multiscale School's website

The School is aimed at providing students with a sound working knowledge of modern mathematical, computational and statistical modelling methods and algorithms as well as innovative experimental techniques for the characterization of complex systems at a multiscale level.
The students
will learn to apply this knowledge both in the field of material and life sciences working in multi-disciplinary well-integrated teams that emphasize the benefit of coordinated, iterative interactions between specialists in modelling/simulation and experimentalists.

In 2014 the PhD Schools Earth system sciences: environment, resources and cultural heritage and Multiscale Modelling, Computational Simulations and Characterization in Material and Life Sciences will join into the PhD course ?Models and Methods for Material and Environmental Sciences?.

The Course aims at the training of experts in advanced research methodologies in environmental and material sciences.The research doctor will be able to operate in one or more of the following fields: processes regulating the transfer of elements and compounds from geosphere to hydro- and biosphere forecasting; prevention and mitigation of natural risks; identification and optimal use of resources; study, conservation and appraisal of cultural assets; environmental impact of human activities; chemical sustainable strategies; preparation and characterization of materials with innovative functional properties; devices and methodologies for electrochemical sensing suitable to work in real systems; computational multiscale strategies; chemometrics, multivariate analysis of signals and images.
